Meet Steph, A Relaxed Wedding Photographer in Devon & Somerset

Devon and Somerset Wedding Photographer -1.jpg

Hey, I'm Steph! I'm a relaxed, natural wedding photographer based in Devon and Somerset, capturing colourful, genuine moments for couples across the South West. Whether you're planning a countryside barn wedding, a coastal celebration, an elegant manor house or an intimate registry office ceremony, my goal is always the same, to tell the story of your day exactly as it happened.

I believe your wedding day should be spent celebrating with the people you love, not standing in front of a camera. That's why my approach is calm, unobtrusive and documentary led, allowing you to be fully present while I quietly capture the laughter, happy tears, tight hugs, proud smiles and all the little moments you might otherwise miss.

Of course, I'm there to help whenever you need me. Whether it's calming pre-ceremony nerves, keeping your timeline running smoothly, fluffing a dress, fixing a buttonhole or giving you a little guidance during your couple portraits, I'll be by your side throughout the day. Nothing feels forced or overly posed, just relaxed direction when it's needed, so your photographs feel natural and genuinely you.

For me, wedding photography has never been about creating perfect moments. It's about preserving the real ones. The moments that make you laugh years later, bring back happy tears, and remind you exactly how your wedding day felt.

If you're looking for a documentary wedding photographer in Devon and Somerset who'll blend into your day, capture every meaningful moment, and create a gallery full of colourful, authentic memories, I'd love to hear all about your plans.

From Borrowing My Grandad's Camera to Photographing Over 100 Weddings

If you ask me where my love for photography started, the answer is simple. My grandad.

He was never a professional photographer. He was simply someone who loved documenting life. Wherever we went, whether it was a family day out, a birthday or just an ordinary afternoon together, he always had a camera in his hand. He understood that the little moments mattered just as much as the big ones, and he made sure they were never forgotten.

Watching him inspired something in me from a young age. I was forever borrowing his camera, photographing absolutely anything and everything I could find. Looking back, I probably drove everyone mad asking them to smile while I experimented with different buttons and settings!

Sadly, I lost my grandad when I was sixteen, before I'd even properly begun my journey into photography. He never got to see where that little spark would lead me, but he remains one of my biggest motivations every single day. I'd love nothing more than to show him what I've built, the weddings, the couples, the stories I've had the privilege of capturing, and I like to think he'd be incredibly proud.

That love of photography only grew from there, so at college I studied a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Digital Creative Media. I learnt photography alongside filmmaking and graphic design, but photography was always what I came back to.

Everything changed when I photographed my very first wedding at just seventeen, while I was still in college. The emotion, the laughter, the nerves, the tiny moments happening all around me, it felt completely different to anything I'd photographed before. From that day, becoming a wedding photographer wasn't just an idea anymore. It became the goal.

After finishing college at eighteen, I threw everything I had into building my business, learning as I went and growing Photoomey Photography one wedding at a time into what it is today. I've now had the privilege of photographing over 100 weddings across Devon, Somerset and the South West, and I still get just as excited turning up to a wedding now as I did with my very first one.

When you genuinely love what you do, it never feels like just another job. I honestly couldn't imagine doing anything else.

A Few Fun Facts About Your Wedding Photographer

Coffee is my love language. You'll usually find me with a coffee in hand whether that be hot or iced, especially on a wedding morning! I invested in a proper coffee machine and it's the best personal investment I've made.

I'm a proud cat mum to Willow, who definitely keeps life entertaining.

I love a good road trip. Whether it's heading to a wedding or exploring somewhere new, I'm always up for an adventure.

When I'm not photographing weddings, you'll probably find me gaming, completing a puzzle or going for a drive or spending time with family and friends.

I absolutely love Mustangs! I'm also a huge car fan and love going to different car shows and seeing so many different and cool cars on show.

People always ask about my business name...

Photoomey Photography is actually a little play on words. It combines "photo" with my surname, Toomey, and somehow it just stuck!

It's definitely a conversation starter because almost nobody knows how to pronounce it the first time!

So Why Do Couples Choose Me As Their Wedding Photographer?

Choosing your wedding photographer is about so much more than loving their photos. You're choosing someone who'll be by your side for one of the biggest days of your life, so it's important that you feel comfortable with them too.

Over the past four years, I've had the privilege of photographing more than 70 weddings across Devon, Somerset and the South West, and every single one has taught me something new. My approach has always been the same: to capture your day naturally, without awkward posing or turning your wedding into a photoshoot.

I'll be there whenever you need me, whether that's calming pre-ceremony nerves, helping keep your timeline on track, fluffing a dress before you walk down the aisle or simply making you laugh during your couple portraits. I'll happily guide you when you need a little direction, but I'll never take over your day or stop real moments from unfolding.

My editing style is colourful, romantic and true to life, creating photographs that feel just as beautiful years from now as they do today. From our very first conversation to delivering your final gallery, I'm here to support you every step of the way with planning advice, helpful tips and a calm, organised presence that helps your day feel as relaxed and enjoyable as possible.

Most importantly, I genuinely care!! Every wedding is unique, every couple has their own story, and it means the world to me that you trust me to capture such an important chapter of your lives.

I'm Probably The Photographer For You If :

  • You'd rather spend your wedding with your guests than posing for hours.

  • You love colourful, natural photography.

  • You hate the thought of awkward posing.

  • You want genuine moments over perfectly staged ones.

  • You value experience, support and someone who genuinely cares about your day.

  • You want your photographer to feel more like another friendly face than someone directing your entire wedding.
