My wedding photography is documentary led, which means that for most of your day I'll step back and capture what's naturally happening around me.
I'm looking for the reactions as you walk down the aisle, the hugs you didn't see, your friends laughing during the speeches, grandparents watching from across the room, children causing chaos and everything happening in between the big moments.
I don't want to constantly interrupt those moments or ask you to recreate something that naturally happened just for the camera.
If it's real, I want to capture it.
That means you get to concentrate on your wedding while I concentrate on preserving it.

Documentary Wedding Photography Doesn't Mean No Direction
You don't need to know how to pose or what to do when there's a camera pointed at you.
Although my approach is primarily candid and documentary, I'll step in when you need me.
I'll organise your family group photographs, help keep an eye on the photography timeline and give you gentle direction during your couple portraits.
Rather than lots of stiff poses, I use simple prompts and movement to help you interact naturally. That might mean getting you walking together, giving you something to do or simply finding the best light and letting you have a few minutes together.
Think guidance rather than posing.
Then, once you're comfortable, I can concentrate on photographing the genuine connection between the two of you.

Wedding Photography Across Devon
One of the things I love about being a wedding photographer in Devon is the sheer variety of celebrations I get to photograph.
I've worked at countryside barns, country houses, hotels, churches, coastal venues, outdoor celebrations and unique wedding locations throughout the county.
One weekend can mean photographing a relaxed countryside wedding surrounded by fields and greenery, while another can have me beside the sea or in the middle of one of Devon's towns or cities.
Whatever kind of wedding you're planning, I'm not there to force it into a particular formula.

I've had the pleasure of photographing weddings at a growing number of venues across Devon, from relaxed countryside barns and manor houses to coastal hotels, outdoor celebrations and some wonderfully unique locations.
My first hand experience includes Harefield Barn, Lupton House, Bickley Mill, Holsome Park, Cockington Court, Livermead Cliff Hotel, The Grand Hotel Torquay, The Osborne Hotel, Rockbeare Manor, Elfordleigh Hotel, Dartmoor Zoo and Tawstock Court.
Every venue and every wedding has been completely different, which is one of the things I love most about photographing weddings across Devon.
Rockbeare Manor
I photographed Kristie and Damien's autumn wedding at Rockbeare Manor, where we made the most of the beautiful gardens, manor house exterior, doors, steps and archways for their relaxed couple portraits.
Their wedding gave us soft autumn light, an unexpected golden hour and some of my favourite creative portraits after dark, including backlit silhouettes using the architecture around the venue.
Their day was also a brilliant example of adapting when wedding plans unexpectedly change, as I stepped in fairly last minute after their original photographer had to cancel.

Harefield Barn
The countryside views at Harefield Barn make it such a lovely setting for natural, relaxed and candid wedding photography.
I photographed Charlotte and Ethan's wedding at Harefield Barn, after working with them beforehand to help them feel more comfortable in front of the camera.
When they first enquired, they were incredibly nervous about wedding photography and had almost considered not having a photographer at all. After chatting through their worries and arranging a relaxed pre wedding shoot, they felt much more comfortable with what to expect.
By the time their wedding day arrived, everything felt relaxed and fun, and their experience is one of my favourite examples of why you absolutely don't need to feel confident in front of a camera to end up with wedding photographs you love.

Bickley Mill
I've photographed multiple weddings at Bickley Mill, so it's a Devon venue I've had the opportunity to return to for different couples and celebrations.
Its countryside setting and relaxed atmosphere work beautifully with my candid and documentary approach, giving me plenty of opportunities to capture guests naturally while still having lovely surroundings for couple portraits.
Cockington Court
I've photographed weddings at Cockington Court in Torquay, surrounded by the greenery and character of Cockington.
It's a lovely option for couples planning a Torbay wedding and gives us plenty of natural surroundings to work with for relaxed portraits without needing to travel somewhere completely separate for photographs.

Being based in this part of the South West means I've also photographed weddings at several of Devon's coastal hotels, including Livermead Cliff Hotel, The Grand Hotel Torquay and The Osborne Hotel.

Being surrounded by coastline gives Devon weddings something particularly special.
I've photographed celebrations around Torquay, Paignton and the wider Torbay area, including weddings at coastal venues such as Livermead Cliff Hotel, The Grand Hotel and The Osborne Hotel.
The sea can become part of your photographs without the photography needing to feel overly staged, and coastal light can change incredibly quickly throughout the day.
I'm always keeping an eye on what's happening outside.
If we're treated to beautiful evening light and you're happy to pop outside for five or ten minutes, we'll make the most of it.And if the Devon weather has other ideas, that's fine too.
A coastal wedding doesn't need perfect blue skies to give you beautiful photographs.

Barns, gardens, fields and country houses also give us lots of options for couple portraits without needing to disappear from your wedding for ages.
We'll usually take a little time away together, make the most of the venue and surroundings around us and then get you back to your guests.
Your wedding is not a photoshoot, and I don't want your memories of it to be spending two hours walking around a field with me.

I'll also consider things such as sunset and seasonal daylight so we're not unnecessarily rushing photographs later, particularly for autumn and winter weddings when Devon's daylight disappears much earlier.
What if we're nervous or hate having our photographs taken?
That's completely normal and something I hear from couples regularly.
My approach is deliberately relaxed and informal. I'll give you gentle prompts and guidance when you need it rather than expecting you to know how to pose, while much of the rest of your wedding is photographed naturally as it happens.
