How I Work | Documentary Wedding Photographer in Devon & Somerset
Choosing a wedding photographer can feel like a big decision, especially if it's not something you've ever had to do before. No need to worry though, I'm here to make the whole process feel easy and straightforward, so you can get back to focusing on the parts of planning you actually enjoy.

A Documentary Led Approach to Your Wedding Day

I'm a documentary style wedding photographer based in Devon and Somerset, also covering Bristol, the Cotswolds, Cornwall and the wider South West.
My approach is natural, candid and unobtrusive, focused on capturing your wedding exactly as it happens rather than directing it.
That means colourful, bright and true to life photography, images that reflect your day exactly how it felt, not how a photographer thinks it should look. I'm not interested in creating moments for the camera. I'm there to capture the ones that happen naturally, the big ones and the tiny ones in between.
If you want a documentary led wedding photographer who'll blend into the background, notice the details and hand you back a gallery that feels completely genuine, this is exactly how I work.
My Approach to Your Wedding Day
My approach is all about capturing your wedding exactly as it is, not how I think it should look. I want you to spend your day enjoying your guests, not worrying about the camera, so I'll blend into the background for most of it and only step in with gentle guidance when it's genuinely useful. The result is a gallery that feels completely yours, relaxed, colourful and true to how your wedding actually felt.
Here's What You Can Expect From Me:
A Relaxed, Natural Approach.
No stiff posing or awkward moments standing around wondering what to do with your hands. I'll give you gentle guidance when it's useful, but the rest of the time I'm just there capturing things as they genuinely happen.
All the Big Moments, Little Moments and Everything In Between.
From the tiny details you might not even notice, to the big emotional bits, to the laughter you didn't plan for, I'm there for all of it.
Colourful, True to Life Editing.
Your gallery will be professionally edited in a bright, colourful and true to colour style, so your photos still look exactly like your wedding did, not like a trend that'll feel dated in a few years.
You can see this style throughout my wedding photography portfolio.
Genuine Care Throughout.
From our first chat to your finished gallery, I'm there to support you, answer questions and help your day feel as relaxed as possible, not just turn up with a camera.

From Enquiry to Gallery, What Working With Me Looks Like
Getting in touch is the easy part. Fill out my contact form with a few details about your wedding, and I'll come back to you within 24 hours to check availability and answer any questions.
From there, we'll usually have a chat, over Zoom, on the phone or in person if you're local, so you can get a feel for me and I can get a feel for your plans.
Once you're happy and ready to book, your date is secured with a £100 deposit and signed contract.
In the lead up to your wedding, I'm on hand for planning support, timeline advice and any questions along the way. As your day gets closer, we'll go through the details together so everything runs smoothly.
On the day itself, I'm there capturing everything naturally as it unfolds, with gentle guidance whenever you need it.
Afterwards, you'll get sneak peeks first, followed by your full gallery, professionally edited and ready to relive for years to come.
You can see the different levels of coverage on my wedding photography packages page.
What It's Like Having Me as Your Wedding Photographer
I know that for most couples, being in front of a camera isn't something you do every day. In fact, one of the things I hear most often is, "We're really awkward in front of the camera." Honestly? Almost every couple tells me that.
My job isn't to turn you into professional models. It's to help you feel comfortable enough to simply be yourselves.
When you need me, I'm right there. I'll help calm those pre ceremony nerves. I'll fluff your dress. I'll straighten buttonholes. Carry bouquets while you're hugging guests. Help organise family photographs quickly so everyone can get back to celebrating. Keep an eye on the timeline if things start running behind.
I'm not there to take over your wedding day. I'm there to support you throughout it.
Because your wedding day should feel exactly that, like your wedding day, not a photoshoot.

Family Photographs & Couple Portraits, Without the Awkward Posing
During your couple portraits, I won't leave you wondering what to do with your hands or force you into awkward poses. Instead, I'll gently guide you with natural prompts that allow genuine moments to happen. Nothing feels forced or overly staged, just relaxed direction when it's useful.
Family photographs get the same treatment. I'll help keep them organised and efficient, so you're not spending your entire drinks reception standing around waiting to be grouped and regrouped. The aim is always to get you back to your guests as quickly as possible.
I'm Probably Your Photographer If:
-
You'd rather spend your wedding with your guests than posing for hours.
-
You love colourful, natural photography.
-
You hate the thought of awkward posing.
-
You want genuine moments over perfectly staged ones.
-
You value experience, support and someone who genuinely cares about your day.
-
You want your photographer to feel more like another friendly face than someone directing your entire wedding.
