My photography is all about capturing the real stuff. The laughter, little glances, happy tears, joyful chaos, people you love and quiet moments happening in between everything else.

Inspired by my grandad's love of storytelling through photographs, I've built my approach around connection, calm energy and allowing people to be themselves in front of the camera.

I want you to look back at your photographs and remember not only what your wedding looked like, but exactly how it felt.

You'll see words like natural, candid and documentary wedding photography used a lot, but what does that actually mean when it's your wedding?

For me, documentary wedding photography means watching, anticipating and capturing the moments happening naturally around me rather than constantly creating moments for the camera.

I'm looking for your partner's reaction as you walk down the aisle, your nan watching you from across the room, your friends laughing during the speeches, children causing chaos, hugs between family members, happy tears and everything happening around you that you might not even notice yourself.

Candid photography means those moments aren't being recreated or staged for a photograph. They're real.

And relaxed means I'm not spending your wedding constantly interrupting you, barking instructions or turning your day into one long photoshoot.

Your wedding is a wedding first. I'm there to document it.

What is it actually like having me around on your wedding day?

My personality is friendly, calm and approachable, and that's exactly the energy I bring to weddings.

For most of the day, I'll blend in with you and your guests and photograph everything as it naturally unfolds. I'll chat with people, have a laugh with you and keep things relaxed while always keeping an eye on what's happening around me.

I don't want you worrying about the camera or wondering what I'm doing.

I want you concentrating on getting married, spending time with the people you love and having an amazing day.

Meanwhile, I'm looking for all those moments you'll want to remember afterwards.

Documentary photography doesn't mean zero direction

One misconception about documentary wedding photography is that your photographer will never give you any help or direction.

That's not how I work.

My approach is documentary led, which means the majority of your wedding is photographed naturally as it happens. But when you need me, I'll step in.

I'll help organise your family group photographs. I'll keep an eye on your photography timeline. I'll offer advice when something isn't quite working. And during your couple portraits, I'll give you gentle direction so you're not left standing in front of me wondering what you're supposed to do.

I don't expect you to know how to pose. Instead, I might ask you to walk together, chat, hold hands, look at each other or give you a little prompt that gets you interacting naturally.

Then I'll photograph what happens. The important difference is that I'm guiding rather than heavily posing!

And if you want even less direction, that's absolutely fine too. Your photography should fit you!

Charlotte and Ethan's wedding at Harefield Barn in Devon is probably one of the best real examples of what my relaxed approach looks like in practice.

When Charlotte and Ethan first enquired with me, they were actually considering whether they wanted a wedding photographer at all.

They told me:

"We're both not particularly comfortable in front of the camera, so your approach sounds good!"

After exchanging a few emails about their wedding, what they were looking for and how I photograph a wedding day, we arranged a Zoom call before they booked.

It gave them the chance to talk through all their worries and questions, and it gave me the chance to explain exactly how I work in much more detail.

One of the biggest things I wanted them to know was that their wedding photography didn't have to look like everybody else's.

If they genuinely hated having photographs taken and didn't want couple portraits or group photographs, that was okay.

I could take a completely stepped back approach, provide very little direction and simply document their wedding as it naturally happened.

I might be slightly biased, but I think wedding photographs are incredibly important.

They're one of the few things you'll have after the day that can take you back to the people, emotions and moments that were there. But I also don't believe you should spend your wedding feeling uncomfortable just to get them!

Trying it out before the wedding

Charlotte and Ethan decided to try a pre wedding shoot. So we arranged a pre wedding shoot at Haldon Forest!

This wasn't about teaching them complicated poses or practising for a photoshoot.

It was about showing them what being photographed by me actually felt like.

We walked through the forest, chatted a lot and kept everything really relaxed. Talking while we walked gave them something else to concentrate on rather than constantly thinking about the camera.

I gave them some gentle direction when they needed it and photographed the interactions that came naturally from there.

And something changed. They liked their pre wedding photographs.

More importantly, they realised that having their photographs taken didn't have to feel as uncomfortable as they'd imagined.

Instead of dreading the photography, they were now looking forward to it.

Charlotte and Ethan's wedding at Harefield Barn

By the time their wedding at Harefield Barn arrived, everything felt completely different.

They knew me. They knew how I worked. They knew what it felt like to be in front of my camera. And I knew them.

The whole experience felt incredibly relaxed and fun, almost like turning up to photograph the wedding of friends rather than two people I'd only met through a wedding enquiry.

That trust meant they could concentrate on enjoying their wedding while I concentrated on documenting it.

There were still relaxed couple portraits and photographs where I offered some gentle guidance, but there was also plenty of time where I simply stepped back and captured everything happening around them.

And, of course, their dog was part of the day too!

My editing style is bright, colourful and vibrant, while keeping your photographs natural and true to the atmosphere of your wedding.

I love colour.

The greens surrounding a countryside wedding, colourful flowers and confetti, blue skies, golden evening light, bright outfits and the atmosphere of a packed dance floor all deserve to feel alive in your gallery.

I don't want to completely change the colours that were actually there or make every wedding fit the same trend.
