If you're planning a wedding in the beautiful South West—whether it's a relaxed countryside ceremony in Devon, an elegant venue in Somerset, or a beachside elopement in Torbay—you might be wondering, what does your wedding photographer actually bring to your big day?
As someone who has photographed over 50 weddings across locations like Cockington, Wells, Bristol, Exeter, and beyond, I want to pull back the curtain and give you a geeky peek into my kit. Here’s exactly what wedding photography gear in Devon and Somerset looks like behind the scenes!

Essential Wedding Photography Gear in Devon and Somerset
Dual Sony A7IV Cameras (Peace of Mind Times Two)
I bring two Sony A7IV cameras to every wedding I shoot. Both are dual SD card slot bodies, which means your images are being backed up in real-time. If—heaven forbid—one card corrupts, your memories are still safe on the second card. This might sound like overkill, but trust me—wedding photography gear in Devon and Somerset needs to be reliable for once-in-a-lifetime events. There are no redos!
I typically shoot the entire day on one camera, but having a second body on hand is absolutely essential in case anything unexpected happens.
My Go-To Lenses
My absolute favourite lens is the Samyang 24-70mm f/2.8—it’s incredibly versatile and allows me to capture everything from candid morning prep to intimate couple portraits.I also carry the Samyang 35-150mm f/2-2.8 lens. It’s slightly heavier, but a brilliant all-rounder, perfect for ceremony moments and quick switches during group shots or speeches.
Insta360 X4 – For the Fun Behind-the-Scenes Stuff
This one’s more for fun (and for my TikTok audience!), but I love capturing a few behind-the-scenes moments with my Insta360 X4 camera. It gives a unique view into how I work, and sometimes catches unexpected funny moments from your day.
Loads of Batteries, Cards, and… Flash (When Needed!)
I come fully loaded with extra SD cards and camera batteries (trust me, I’m not running out of power halfway through your ceremony in Somerset!).For the evening, I bring along my Godox V1 S speedlite flash. I’m a natural light girly at heart, but during darker evening receptions, cake cutting, or first dances—it’s a lifesaver.
Lighting Tools for Tricky Moments
Technically not in the bag, but packed in my car is my trusty tripod, light stand, and Neewer MS60B portable video light. This gear helps with:
Lighting your first dance
Creating beautiful evening portraits
Indoor group photos (especially when Devon weather throws a curveball!)
Why It Matters When Choosing a Wedding Photographer
Booking a photographer isn’t just about pretty photos—it’s about preparation and peace of mind. The wedding photography gear in Devon and Somerset that I use is tailored to ensure your day runs smoothly, looks stunning, and is backed up from start to finish.
So whether you're getting married in Tiverton, Taunton, Cotswolds, or Bristol, rest easy knowing I’ve got the tools (and backups!) to tell your love story beautifully.
