A Love Story That Started with Coffee

Some love stories begin with fireworks, but Will and Merrydith’s started in a cosy coffee shop—where all the best stories do. At the time, Will was based in North Devon, while Merrydith was deep into her PhD studies in Plymouth. Despite the distance, Will made the journey every weekend, coffee in hand, proving early on that he was truly a keeper.

After months of laughter, caffeine, and countless weekend visits, they moved in together, and as Merrydith says, “the rest is history.”

A Snowy Proposal in Wales

Fast forward to New Year’s Day, on Merrydith’s favourite walk in Wales. A snowstorm swirled around them as William proposed at the top of a mountain, a cinematic moment that perfectly set the tone for their heartfelt love story. Of course, she said yes!

The Perfect Setting for a Hestercombe House and Gardens Wedding in Taunton

Nestled just outside Taunton, Somerset, Hestercombe House and Gardens is one of the South West’s most enchanting wedding venues. With over 50 acres of beautifully designed landscapes and a history spanning three centuries, it offers a seamless blend of Georgian grandeur and Edwardian charm.

The Orangery, where many couples choose to say “I do,” is a breathtaking space filled with natural light and elegant stonework. Its classical architecture and garden views make it the perfect spot for romantic ceremonies and timeless wedding photography.

Every Hestercombe Wedding feels unique—whether it’s bathed in golden autumn light or framed by lush spring blooms, it’s a dream backdrop for timeless and modern wedding photos alike.

Warm Autumn Tones and Modern Energy

Will and Merrydith’s wedding style perfectly matched the season, a warm autumn palette of deep oranges, reds, and browns, with a touch of high-energy, modern-retro flair. The day was filled with vibrant laughter, candid moments, and disco-ball sparkle.

They wanted images that captured movement, joy, and connection over posed perfection and that’s exactly what we created together. The mix of timeless surroundings with their bold, fun energy made for unforgettable photographs.

Traditions, Games, and a Gavin & Stacey Twist

The evening celebrations kicked off around 8:30 (depending on the sparklers, of course!) with a fun-filled round of Mr & Mrs, followed by a hilarious Polish tradition involving a vodka and a water shots to determine “who will be the boss.”

The Best Man then hosted a lively pub quiz that had everyone laughing before Will and Merrydith’s unforgettable first dance. Dressed up for the occasion, they surprised guests with a Gavin and Stacey, inspired rendition of “Islands in the Stream”, complete with family joining in midway through. It was the perfect reflection of their relationship, joyful, cheeky, and full of love.

Moments That Mattered Most

When asked what they were most looking forward to on the day, Will said it was “the ceremony, especially saying the vows.” For Merrydith, it was all about “cutting the cake.”

Those small, heartfelt moments, the ones that reflect a couple’s true personalities—are what make wedding photography so meaningful. It was a privilege to capture every smile, tear, and disco spin of their Hestercombe Wedding.

Why I Love Photographing a Hestercombe House Wedding

A couple holds hands outdoors under leafy branches. The man wears a rust suit; the woman, in a white dress, holds a bouquet. Rustic wall behind.

Every Hestercombe Wedding has its own magic. From the romantic Orangery to the sweeping lawns overlooking the Taunton countryside, this venue never fails to inspire creativity.

As a wedding photographer, I’m always drawn to how each couple brings their own unique energy to the space,

just like Will and Merrydith did. Their laughter echoed through the gardens, their love shone through every frame, and their story is one I’ll always remember.

If you’re planning a Hestercombe Wedding in Taunton, I’d love to capture your story with the same warmth, colour, and energy that make your day uniquely yours.
